About Rachel Garrett
Over seven years at Shopify, one of the world's fastest growing e-commerce platforms, I started by building the New Zealand team from the ground up and went on to lead half of Global Support across twelve countries. Along the way I transformed how the company served customers across multiple languages, and played a senior role in some of the biggest structural changes the business made during that period. Most recently I led a team of 800 people through Shopify's company-wide adoption of AI which remains among the most notable AI journeys in global business.
Prior to this I have held operational, change, and senior leadership roles across financial services, government, health, and telecommunications, more than two decades at the intersection of people, performance, and change, in organisations moving fast, under pressure, and through uncertainty.
I'm an accredited coach and a trained mediator, but the thing that has shaped my work most isn't a credential. It's having led at scale, through real pressure, in organisations that were moving faster than most people around me thought was possible.

What I believe
My time working in large scale AI transformation at Shopify reinforced my belief that it is the ability to lead and develop people through organisational change that matters more than any process or technology. High performance and genuine humanity are not in conflict. The organisations and leaders who will lead well in the next decade are the ones who understand and act on this.
